The Briefcase is an area of the MyCompass profile that has limited access based on what type of user you are. The Briefcase is for storing things like ID numbers, living arrangements, emergency contacts, etc:

Each section of the briefcase can have it's own Custom Fields, and uploaded documents.
The briefcase also has a Staff area for specific reporting and Log Notes functionality. Again, this is based on what type of user you are in MyCompass.
